Kathmandu to Pokhara: Flight, Private Vehicle and Tourist Bus Compared
A practical comparison of the three main ways to travel between Kathmandu and Pokhara, so you can choose based on time, budget and comfort.

Domestic flight
The fastest option at roughly 25–30 minutes in the air, with mountain views on a clear day. Best for travellers short on time or who prefer not to spend most of a day on mountain roads. Flights can occasionally be delayed by weather, so we build in reasonable buffer time around connections.
Private vehicle
Around 6–8 hours by road, with flexibility to stop for photos, food or a short break. A comfortable, private option for travellers who want to see the countryside and don't mind a full driving day — usually the choice we recommend for families and those wanting more control over the pace.
Tourist bus
A more budget-conscious option covering the same route, typically on a shared coach with fixed departure times and less flexibility than a private vehicle, but a reasonable way to reduce cost on a longer trip.
Our general recommendation
If your schedule is tight, fly. If you have a full day to spare and want the scenery, a private vehicle is usually worth the extra cost over a shared bus. We can arrange any of the three and will give you an honest recommendation based on your dates and priorities.
